Brown Mountain Lights Ghost
05/2019

On a trip up here to see the fabled Brown Mountain Lights. Got a tip from some locals on the best time to witness the lights, so I headed out late in the afternoon to go to the Brown Mountain Overlook and see if I could get them on camera. Drove up to the location and pulled up, there were 4 other cars in the parking lot. With my lights still on, I noticed that EVERYONE was crowded just a little past the sign for the Brown Mountain Lights. It looks like everyone sits next to the stones on the overlook edge next to a USGS benchmark. The crowd of about 8 people didn't take kindly to me or my little dog stumbling around in the dark near them trying to take photos of the night sky and observe "possible" Brown Mountain Lights so I walked a few feet down from them and tried to setup my tripod and camera. After about 15 minutes of NOTHING, not a single light, I decided I should head back to the van for a snack. I walked past the people, past two cars driving away, and towards my van. As I was getting closer to my van, I noticed picnic tables to the north. Since there's no light out there, you have to rely on the dim light of your smartphone or the lights of any passing vehicles. Sitting at the picnic tables was a figure. It wasn't sitting at a table, but on top of a picnic table. I could just barely see the outline of the figure, it was wearing a brown-ish grey hoodie, the hoodie over their head. They were curled up, knees tucked with arms wrapped around them. The figures head was down and it was almost like they were crying. I started to say "Hey, you okay?" and walked towards the figure. A passing car with it's brights on blinded me, and as my eyes refocused, the figure was gone. I looked around, nothing. Nobody was at the picnic table area. I looked back behind me to see if maybe the person walked back over to the crowd of other people, only to see there were only about 4 people over there. There was nobody else around, and unless that figure jumped off the overlook or silently ran into the steep brush at the side of the overlook cliff, that figure vanished. Later, my husband asked me if I saw "the kid in the hoodie" and I told him about what I saw. He saw something different. He said every time he was near that spot, in his peripheral vision he kept seeing a kid in a hoodie on the picnic table, but every time he looked over there it was either too dark to see clearly, or there was nothing there. I don't have any evidence of this, sadly. I took a picture of the picnic tables, and even at 10:30pm, all I have is a photo of picnic tables in the dark, with no haze or fog or distortion. So I can't explain what I saw.

Andrews Geyser
03/2019

Andrew's Geyser is a really weird monument that I'm still researching because it's a monument that doesn't make any sense. Yes, it was supposed to be a tourist attraction for a nearby hotel, but once the hotel burned down and the geyser fell into disrepair, it should have been repaired. But instead, it got rebuilt and half of the design looks very similar to a Masonic Temple. The monument is in a really weird valley that causes sound and echo anomalies. To make it worse, a railway wraps all the way around the valley, like a massive Tibetan Sound Bowl. When older, heavier trains pass through the area, the ringing from the railroad can almost deafen you. I went exploring on the edge of Andrew's Geyser, just following my instincts and the course of the fast-moving creek. I stopped at a bridge that towered above the creek. Upon the bridge is a weird mural of what I can only describe as a water nymph or dryad. My little dog and I explored this little mural at the edge of the water, and discovered a beautiful little waterfall below it, along with pretty stones and very vivid flowers that should be growing closer to dry land. Suddenly, a train started roaring down the track. It kinda snapped me into the "now" -I looked down at my phone and saw I'd been out there for over a half hour. I swear I had just gotten there, and the sound of the train above was getting louder and higher pitch, almost painful. I picked my little dog up and put her head into my chest because the sound was soo terrible (if it was hurting my ears it was probably kiling hers) and started crawling up the creek bank back to the main road. As soon as I hit the main road, my walkie talkie (that I forgot I had with me) started going off and my Husband was calling for me over the walkie. I got in touch and finally made my way back to the geyser. While I was gone, a local had walked down to my husband and talked to him about the "weird" in the area. Told him about ghosts and shadow people. None of which we encountered. But then the guy told us about something that struck a nerve. He believed there was a "Rake" trapped in the area, and the Rake was actually a dryad that had grown wicked and warped being trapped in the area. He claimed it was malevolent and a trickster, that it had lured local pets away. It struck me as really weird this dude would walk up and just start talking about all this weird stuff, but then again, I do have a big giant magnet on the side of my van advertising that I'm into paranormal and weird news. We went home later that night and I started doing research. There's very little on Andrew's Geyser, or ghosts, and only one mention of a Dryad or Rake in the region. I don't know enough about Dryads or mythological creatures, but I do know I was missing time for over a half hour, and if needed, I could re-draw that strange mural from memory.

Dark Lobo Canyon
07/2015

One of our first excursion to the remote wilderness areas of New Mexico got creepy really quick. We camped out in the El Malpais region of New Mexico. First we started in Dark Lobo Canyon (it got renamed, for obvy reasons) and couldn't sleep all night. We kept hearing howling and our dog whined for most of the night. In the morning, we found drag marks and warnings about "large predators" in the area. The fact we set camp late at night obscured the obvious: That NOONE had camped in this canyon for at least a year. As we tried to make breakfast and get settled in, our larger dog (who was on a lead attached to the camper and trying to poop) came running out from the brush crazy and ran into the camper, crawled up into the bed and trembled. At that point, we heard a large cry that was NOT a wolf, but sounded way too bass to be a mountain lion. Being creeped out, we headed south to the actual El Malpais National Monument. It was beautiful and calm, and we didn't feel creeped out. We hiked a few short trails, but our older big dog was NOT having it. He was usually quite curious, and loved hiking in the desert. He stayed up that night as well. Sleepless and annoyed that my dog was being soo wigged out, I awoke in the early morning hours to watch the sun rise. As I opened the door to the camper, I opened it to the expansive view of the El Malpais, and saw large grey/black canine type figures rushing across the main road. They were running away from me, and I was less scared and more curious. They looked like REALLY BIG coyotes. Thinking nothing of it, I started to cook breakfast and set down to share my eggs and steak with the dogs. Suddenly, we heard a group of coyotes howling at the edge of the canyon. It sounded like 30 of them. With that, again, my big dog dropped his piece of bacon, crawled into the camper, brining his leash and all the desert dust in with him. But then we heard something else. We heard the same thing we heard in Lobo Canyon, the loud, long, deep howl that didn't sound like it belonged to any known creature. Now both my dogs were trembling, our older dog actually peed on the camper, and my husband was DONE. He decided we were going to try to find a "less weird" place to camp out. I want to say, during this whole time, I wasn't necessarily creeped out or scared, I was more fascinated, I really wanted to know what the howl was, I wanted to know the source. I felt drawn to explore in Lobo, and now I was feeling drawn to explore the direction the howl came from. It was my husband and my dogs that pushed me into the reality of "that ain't a good idea". We drove North, and with my map and smartphone open, I decided we NEEDED to stop at the Continental Divide Trail (CDT) pass through in Grants. I don't know why we needed to stop at this particular spot, I had been to the CDT in the past, but I really wanted to go. We pulled into this CDT Trail section head and the parking lot was empty. It was dead silent, and even though there was tons of activity about a mile down the road (it was a holiday weekend), it was like time was standing still in this spot. The dogs didn't want to get out of the camper, and I decided to leave them behind. As I walked through the CDT Trail entrance, the metal swing gate wasn't locked, but it was so hard to move. It resisted, not like it was rusted, but just like it was frozen in place. I kicked the gate with my foot and proceeded. My husband and I started to hike up the ridge, with the camper in view below. About 1/4 up the trail, we came to a low-hanging tree, and encountered a gross stench. It smelled of human feces, and something...else? I looked in the tree and noticed a pair of men's underwear hanging in it. For a place that looked like it didn't get many visitors, this was a pretty "fresh" find. I maneuvered around it and my husband ducked. As he was about to say "Ok, that's gross let's get ou---" -we spotted something else. Sneakers. NEW ones, One was unlaced, and the other looked like it had been ripped off a foot. About four feet from that, a pair of sweatpants made out of that shiny basketball-shorts material. And a foot from that, a ripped t-shirt. At this point, both of us are barely breathing. Mostly out of fear, but also because the smell is getting worse. I turn the corner around a bush and right in front of the ripped t-shirt is a torn apart backpack and the carcass of the largest wolf I have ever seen. It's fresh, like days old. One of it's feet is touching the t-shirt. There's a rock next to it's head, a rock bashed into it's abdomen, two large sticks next to it as if those may have been used to beat this thing to death. Some of it's skin is peeled back. It's as though this "creature" shed it's clothing, and then was attacked by two individuals. The air is solid, the bugs stop making noise, everything isn't just "weird" it's unnerving. We don't talk, we just look at this thing and try to take in everything we're looking at. And then we hear the howl. That deep, guttural, unnatural howl. And it's right around the rise on this foothill. It's too close. I turn to face the direction of the howl, and it happens again but shorter and louder. We're not able-bodied hikers, but before I knew it my husband was grabbing my hand and dragging me down the trail. I'm yelling and trying to go towards the howl, and towards the wolf. I snapped a picture before being whisked down the trail and thrown in the camper. My husband was trying to start the van (which had just gotten a tune-up because we weren't about to drive 400 miles without making sure the camper was good). The camper van stalled. I'm a little more car-savvy that most women, but it didn't make sense. It was like the battery went dead, because the time was blinking and the low "click-click" sound emmitted from the ignition. At the same time, a truck peeled in behind us and spun out into the highway, taking off and leaving the camper circled in a cloud of dust. The camper van started and we peeled out of there in the same fashion. Neither of us said anything to each other for about 30 minutes. And the first thing we did say to each other was "WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT?" Fast-forward about 6 months later. I'm finally making friends in New Mexico at a new job and befriended a local girl from the Laguna Pueblo right outside Grants. I told her about my experience and she just looks at me pale and said "You were being tested by a Skinwalker. The fact you were being called to it is really weird. That don't happen too often." I tried to press her for more, but she never spoke about it again. But she did always take an interest in my reaction to some of the more spiritual and weird stuff in the desert that she showed me (like old churches, sacred sites, and spots that have a reputation of being malevolent to "colonists"). The fact I enjoyed those places and miss them still eats at me. The experience bothers me to this day, like I wish I had actually gone after the howl. I don't know how to explain it, but it's like that area still "calls" to me.

The Virgin of Lages
09/2019

In the city of Lages there is a river that surrounds the city, and the river forms a pond downtown where the slaves used to wash the masters' clothes in the nineteenth century. Today this place is called Jonas Ramos Park. At that time a single woman had become pregnant. As soon as the child was born the woman drowned the child in the lake. The demon received the child's death as an offering. He became a serpent and came to live into and to curse the whole river. His head is in the pond and his tail is along the river. From then on, the demon threatens to shake and to flood the city. To prevent this from happening, the population erected a church near the pond and they put the image of the Virgin Mary inside it, as if she were stepping the head of the serpent. Whenever the statue is removed, the river swirls and floods parts of the city. That is why the population is careful that they never remove the statue of the Virgin from the church.

Spinning Ship

I woke up thinking about three hours with a terrible discomfort, opened my eyes and saw something that left frozen, a huge bright ship spinning slowly over us I tried to shout to my colleagues but when I turned my face to see if they were there seeing that with me I had no one, I tried to get up but I couldn't move, my body was totally paralyzed, my eyes got heavy and I went out I can't say what happened next, when I woke up everyone was still sleeping in Lage I called them and asked if they remembered something from the night before they just said they would never sleep in the open again. I asked about the ship if they saw the ship too but said they didn't remember anything and didn't want to talk about it anymore. After that day each took a different turn and we never saw each other again. I also decided not to talk about it with anyone else.] Submitted by Nino

Field On Wexner Property
01/2018

My 12 year old son and I were driving to school around sunrise on a cold winter morning in '18 and saw a woman wearing 18th century period clothing walking in the middle of a farm field probably 150 feet from the road on a outparcel of the expansive and heavily guarded Les Wexner estate property in New Albany OH. There are no other houses around this area and it's well away from the Wexner main compound. She was walking straight down the middle of the field very slowly and seemingly walking with a purpose while ignoring our car and the cold. My son and I both saw her. There is a old school house on the property farther up the road and through some research I discovered there was a yellow fever epidemic in New Albany in the late 1800s. I don't know if that's connected but I have a feeling....It was a very strange experience for my son and I and we recant it often.

Highlawn Haunting

My GF and I rented an old two story house and one night while watching television in the living room a weird dark circle about 8 inches round floated quickly in front of us from right to left at about 6 inches off the floor. One of our cats was chasing it and we only saw it for a few seconds. It startled me at first and I asked if she saw it too and she said she did. On another occasion, my then 7 year old daughter was playing upstairs in her room with three of her friends when they all came running down the stairs yelling and obviously upset and scared. They said that they were playing when a toy came flying from behind them and crashed into the wall like it had been thrown. The only other people in the house was my GF and I and we were all the way downstairs in the kitchen.

This happened over a decade ago. My friend and I were walking down towards Burien late at night, and we heard the sorts of sounds you associate with a high speed semi, but the sounds were overhead, it was a clear night and no planes were visible (nor was there a plane engine sound), and it spooked us so we ran down to Des Moines Memorial Dr.

The Brownsville Serpent
05/2018

There is what appears to be a long, odd-looking water creature living in the bay near Brownsville. It was 8 feet long with a serpent like body with no visible limbs. It also had a dark coloration. When sighted, the creature rose an eel-like head slightly out of the water while swimming. Not long after, it retreated back under the water near the bridge. I'm aware of the occasional river otter in the nearby estuary, but what I saw was definitely not an otter.

We didn't see it, only heard it. The dog went crazy and then everything went silent. No insects or anything. It was probably around 10pm. We all went inside and didn't come back out for the rest of the night.

Mysterious "Whiteout"

My husband and I were outside around 11:00pm and all of a sudden, in a split second, it was as if the earth turned on the lights and turned them off really fast...hard to explain but my husband nicknamed it a “whiteout”...the whole earth all around us blew up with white light-it wasn't like it came from the sky-everything on the ground just lit up white for a second? It creeped us out and I've yet to find an answer as to what it was-no noise and it wasn't electrical at all-it felt supernatural!

Meon Hill
02/1945

Meon Hill is the site of the last acknowledged "Witchcraft murder" in the UK. Charles Walton was found murdered on Valentines Night 1945, his chest pierced with an iron hoe pinning him to the ground , a standard method of "pinning witches" in times gone by. During the ensuing investigation a "celebrity officer" from Scotland Yard called "Fabian" was brought in on the case. He had no luck himself and after h he enquired of locals as to "The owner of the large black dog he had seen in the lanes around Meon Hill" the locals refused to speak to him any more. Since then, there have been other "Black Shuck" sightings and in 1976, a plain perfectly round crop circle was discovered near the base of the hill. Given its' position and how it guards the ancient "Fosse Way", it is surprising that, no castle or manor house has ever been built on the hill and it has remained unoccupied since, pretty much, the iron age. There is an old manor in the vicinity however, it sits away from Meon Hill itself.

Devil's Lair
10/2019

I'm not going to say much about it I'd rather people formulate their own opinions as to what kind of weirdness is happening out here. The second time I went here I had feelings of being watched and then as I got closer to this place I got intense feelings of anxiety that were not my own. As if I were supposed to stay away it was like warding me off. I had three others with me. There was a point that I could not cross because the energy was so strong they were able to pass this point. One person went deep into where this Trail led. Everybody in the middle of the trail no one moving no animals around I've become stricken with panic. And then down from where the one person is standing deep at the end on the side of the trail in the brush all four of us hear big running sounds toward my direction it got so close to me but I thought it really was right next to me but I couldn't see it. I did Envision it. I won't give a description because I want people to have their own opinion if they do decide to make it out there. I made them all walk back to me and we went up the stairs back to the original Trail . I could not stay there the energy was so strong whatever was there didn't want us to be there because it didn't know us and it didn't trust us . But whatever is there feels old and feels strong. It's worth the walk. I don't believe in the name Devil's lair. I call whatever is out there my friend because I've had better experiences since this first one. I really do love this place but also I am cautious. This place is a public Trail. It's actually called the Sheldon estate. It actually does have a very nice history as well. This land is very well looked after and has been for many years. All of it is worth researching on your own time and if you feel like you want to.

Chatty Bigfoot
06/2011

I was resting by my picnic table when a tree snapping crashing sound was coming my way from the east. Nothing except humans makes that much noise. I have lived here my entire life. I was stunned when an estimated 9' tall, 500 lb+ hairy creature stepped into the open below my house. His hair was brown and long on his body, some white or gray areas on his face and body. Head was oval with heavy brows, ears on the side of his head. He must have sat down and then started talking. No idea what he was saying, sounded nothing like any language I have heard. I went in the house, and from that day on that summer I would hear him screaming, he was answered by another one over in Richfield. I did not see him again except one night when the electric company was near me repairing lines, and my flashlight caught two huge yellow eyes Watching this, just behind my house. I think it was him who slapped the side of my house at night. I believe it was him who killed my outside cats but I did not see that. I would hear incredible screams at night and that was witnessed by a friend who was a hunter. The last thing that happened late that summer was I saw my front porch window looked messed up, and it was covered with snot running down it 3 or 4 feet. Others have seen Bigfoot around the area.

High Strangeness at Borough Green
06/2019

Numerous staff members at the gym have been reporting stories of ghost encounters to me. A janitor said that he saw a misty-looking humanoid moving across the roof while screaming, and a cleaner was nearly pushed into the pool by an unseen presence. Several of the gym trainers have talked about hearing laughter like that of a young child, and one trainer in particular described locking the gym up for the night and seeing shadowy figures moving around by the second floor window. I have had a plethora of experiences around the area as well - with my first being when I heard some bizarre ice cream van-style music coming from a nearby landfill hill. I was effectively hypnotised by this music, and the phrase 'I had the overwhelming urge to follow it' came into my head. My father - who had been training with me - called me and snapped me out of it. That wouldn't be the only time I would hear the music, and the next time I would come prepared. I revisited the area and walked down where I had previously heard the music coming from. It started up again when I asked the air to 'play me a tune' and I got it on camera. It started and stopped twice and each time I caught it on camera. I then walked down a path - following where I thought the weird music had come from - and I had a bizarre experience in which my perspective somehow became distorted and I saw an obese-looking humanoid dressed entirely in a skintight red suit walking between two buildings. Despite looking out over a long lane through the treeline, it was like I was looking directly at the entity as opposed to being considerably far away from it as I should've been. I hurried away from the scene and into a local park, and there I saw a man dressed in blue digging in the dirt behind a tree in the nearby forest. I caught this on camera as well. Obviously, I was intrigued by what was going on in this area and so I repeated this route many times. I found that the red humanoid may have been a misidentified post van, but this seems unlikely just because of how weird it looked to me. I heard the music twice more, and got it on camera each time. At one point, I left the gym grounds and went up to a nearby roundabout whereupon the music started playing again at the loudest volume I've ever heard it do so - so loud in fact that I looked up at the nearby lampposts to check that there were no loudspeakers. I got this on video as well. Another weird occurrence that took place around the area was the spontaneous appearance of a lane which I had never seen before. I had walked the route up from the gym to the village several times and never got lost, and so I was baffled when I ended up at a crossroads in front of a small neighbourhood which I had never seen before. I have no idea how I previously missed that. At another roundabout within the village, a dense group of trees seemingly appeared there within a week. I have asked another resident of the area and she didn't realise there were trees on the roundabout - and yet there certainly are and they are dense enough to hide in. There was also an occassion in which I was walking across the park - and despite it having been previously sunny - a hailstorm started out of nowhere (caught on camera) and then stopped as soon as I left the park. Overall, it seems that Borough Green can be a very weird place when it wants to be.

Haunted Headstone
09/2016

When we moved into the house, my husband swore up and down the place was haunted. I worked full time and he was a stay at home parent. He claimed he heard all kinds of weird pops, clicks, voices, and experienced things moving in the house while I was at work. About a month after we moved in, my husband unearthed an old headstone in the back yard while doing some clean up. It was badly worn and difficult to read. However, when we propped it up on the porch, the evening sun hit it just right so that we could read the words on it. It said: "ROBERT C WRIGHT AUG ?? 1914 FEB 5 1917 AT REST" Immediately, we were concerned that there was a child buried in our back yard, but some emails and phone calls made to the local historic society produced some death certificates that showed that the little boy was actually buried in an Oddfellows cemetery about an hour away, over the state lines. I contacted the last living relative, now in her 80's about it, and she had no idea why his stone was in our yard. The house was built by the husband of littler Robert's older sister, however. [caption id="attachment_2495" align="alignnone" width="616"] "Little Robert" is pictured sitting between his parents in the front row[/caption] About a week after we found the stone, my husband heard very clearly a child shout "Help! Move!" He was a bit shaken up about it. We eventually returned Robert's stone to his cemetery, where his grave had remained unmarked next to his mother since his death. We hope this made him happy. Maybe this was the "move" the child ghost shouted about.

Odd Bird &tc.
04/2019

On the first weekend after Halloween I went into London to try an odd audio walking tour around St Pauls Cathedral (called "A Hollow Body"). Because it was mostly in the financial district of the city of London on a Saturday, there was almost nobody else around, other than the occasional police patrol car. The Tour would occasionally give different instructions to me and my partner, to make an artistic statement about pursuit or isolation or somesuch. Just at the point where the walking tour instructed me and my partner to split up, I noticed a ball of brown feathers on the pavement. She went ahead, as instructed, and I waited a few feet away from what I could now see was a dead bird. The audio tour told me to wait longer, and despite the tour being five years old, it was as if it was giving me time to look at the bird. It had a short brown body and a long pointed beak. The clean bloodlessness of the ground under it made me think it might have been dropped or thrown by a posh city-banker after a game-shooting trip, That didn't stand up to much scrutiny as the whole city was a ghost town on a Sunday. I also wondered if it had flown into one of the tall glass skyscrapers during Autumn migration, but its head was half snapped off and its throat was open. Because the audio tour required a very outdated app to run, and couldn't be interrupted for fear of desynchronising with the other listeners I couldn't take a picture of this. It felt like a very contrived way of preventing me from proving that this had happened at all. Later in the day, apropos of nothing, I suddenly realised it was a Eurasian Woodcock, although I don't know where I learned that. I have never seen a woodcock before, and If I was ever going to I would have thought it would be on a rural heath, rather than on the clean flagstones under the Ludgate building. We had to abandon the tour once we reached the old wall of London as changes to the road layout meant the directions we were getting no longer made sense. That evening we went to The Old Operating Theatre at St Thomas' Street for a lighthearted seance, and the next day we completed the adoption of a jet black cat who we had visited at a shelter on Halloween itself. On the way back from the shelter we passed two car wrecks that would have happened less than twenty minutes after we passed those spots on our outward journey.

Daytime UFO

Summer, mid-day. Sky was bright white overcast. Looking up into sky, saw a ball of beautiful "sky blue" light, with a tail. Seemed to be moving up and to the right as tail was to left. Visible for only a couple of seconds.

UFO Fly-by
03/2016

I was out in the yard at 9pm with my dog when a large, chevron shaped craft flew over my house. It was completely silent, did not look aerodynamic at all, like a flying brick. There were five large blood red glowing lights spaced equally on the bottom of it. It had blurry edges and you would never notice it if you weren't looking up at the right time. I watched it slowly cruise over the neighborhood for about 15 seconds.

Brighton Ridge Apartments
06/2015

My coworker lived there for about a year and since his lease was up, he wanted to move to another apartment. He said his unit is haunted. He was sitting on his couch watching TV one night and he saw a dark shadow figure came out from his kitchen which was all the way back in his unit, into his bedroom. He also said one night he was awaken to see a white translucent floating spirit in front of his bedroom window. The same thing happened again with a dark floating spirit. But the scariest story was one night his girlfriend from SoCal visited him. He was awaken and didn't see his girlfriend next to him but sitting in front of the bed. He didn't think too much of it so went back to sleep. Then he felt the weight of someone slowing climbing up to him and thinking that his girlfriend wants to get frisky. Then he heard the bathroom toilet flushing and the presence all of a sudden lifted. He opened his eyes and saw his girlfriend coming out of the bathroom.

Mysterious Lurker
01/2018

In the winter of 2018-2019 I ran down 15th about 4 mornings per week around 5 to 5:30 a.m. every morning I would encounter a tall "person" resembling Baron Samedi (of [Vodou] mythology). Sometimes I would run past him and he would be striding down the sidewalk with his coat blowing behind him. Other times he would be hidden and scare me deeply. For example I once ran up upon him (and he was so thin) hidden behind a telephone pole smoking a cigarette. We were inches apart. I never saw his face or eyes. He was there every day. He felt malevolent. I couldn't tell you age race etc. I believed male. It freaked me out to the point that I started running in the street and finally changed my route completely.

The Ghost in the Cathedral
01/1988

Years ago I was a cantor for the early morning mass at St. James Cathedral. My place was in the front of the church, in the sanctuary, and I worked with Howard Hoyt, the organist, who at that time was always in the organ loft in the back of the church. One 8AM mass I noticed that a tall, formally dressed older man was in the organ loft, standing next to the organ. He had on a brown suit, with a lovely matching vest, a gold chain stretched across it, which I assumed was for a watch, and a white shirt. I remember wondering who he was and where he got those clothes. The next time I looked, he was gone. After the service, I asked the Howard who had been in the loft with him, but he said there was no one up there with him. He asked me to describe the man I saw, and then told me that oh yes, that’s Dr. Palmer. He died on the organ bench on Palm Sunday in 1927. The organist said he was aware of Dr. Palmers presence and had seen him too, when he practiced in the Cathedral late at night when it was locked. There’s never any threatening feeling. Apparently Dr. Palmer just checks in to make sure the standard of music at St. James has maintained his high standard.

Road Phantoms
09/2004

When I was in my teens and early twenties, I was prone to hallucinations. I suffered from depressive episodes and manic episodes, and took a lot of medication to deal with it. Sometimes I'd joke that most people take drugs to trip, and all I had to do was not take them. These problems were made worse by my persistent regimen of marijuana. None of this describes who I am today, and looking back it seems like someone else's life entirely... I say all this in the interest of full disclosure, ahead of the weird ghost tale I'm adding to the map. I used to see what I called Road Phantoms. Because of my condition at the time, I assumed they were purely hallucinatory and, as such, didn't feel the need to talk about them. Sometimes I'd see one in the middle of the road and freak out a bit as a passenger, and whoever was driving would ask what was wrong - at which point the Phantom would be gone, and I'd have to shrug and say it was nothing. Usually the Road Phantoms were fairly distinct figures standing in or alongside the road, and on some occasions would only be partial people - two that spring to mind immediately that were almost assuredly hallucinations were a headless family of three and a hovering torso that turned out to be a mailbox. The night in question I was closing up the cafe where I worked, and my fellow barista who was on with me that night proposed we go across town for a drink at the bar. We took the long way there to allow time for pot smoking, and on the home stretch of Franklin St I saw her - a tall, pale woman with curly hair in a polka dot dress, standing just enough in the road to be alarming. She appeared to be soaked from head to toe and she gazed at us from a tilted forward neck position as we approached. I was holding a hit and had just passed the joint when my friend swerved around her. It took me a second to realize - wait, he saw it too? "Damn!" He said, "did you see that chick? She's gonna get hit standing there!" I informed him that she wasn't there. At least, she wouldn't be if we went back. Just another Road Phantom... He stopped the car and did a three point turn. Less than a minute had elapsed when we drove back there to find no trace of the woman in the polka dot dress. Franklin St overlooks part of the city, down an embankment that's pretty steep. Aside from a few mechanics on that road, there's no place to go but down or into thin air. The woman was soaked although it wasn't raining. We were high and I was prone to seeing things, but could we have seen the same thing if it was hallucinatory? I'm more recent years I've brought the story up to the friend in question, he doesn't remember it happening. I find a lot of folks conveniently forget things that they can't rationalize. I've also met other people who have seen the Road Phantoms. Who knows what's going on with that - straight up ghosts or drug induced visions? At least on that one night I had a little bit of vindication that these things weren't just in my head...

Strange Dreams at Gaines Point
08/2004

I was visiting Seattle for the day about 16 years ago, and was just walking around town by myself. I started by in Pioneer Square and had walked as far as Green Lake. I was due to meet a friend nearby, but I was early. The park seemed like a good spot to kill some time, since it wasn't too far from where I needed to be anyway. I was walking around the lake, saw a random park bench, and sat down. I had lived a few miles from there several years before, but it was my first time in the park. I don't remember if there was anything remarkable abut the bench, it just looked like a good spot. Maybe there was a plaque or something that said Gaines on it, but I haven't thought about it or been there since then. I must have sat there for only 5 minutes before I dozed off watching the ducks or geese or whatever bird was there. I don't remember my dreams now, only that they were crazy and weird. At the time I chalked it up to minor dehydration or sleeping in the sunshine or having overly exerted myself. I had never fallen asleep on a park bench before, so that in itself was weird. The fact that I slept hard enough to dream is what struck me as the most unusual at the time. When I woke up, the sun was starting to set and I had no idea what time it was. The birds had gotten quiet and had all moved away from me. I rushed over to meet my friend, and he had almost given up waiting for me. Despite being early to the park, I ended up being late to the meeting. I hadn't thought about it for a long time, until I saw a picture of that exact park bench in the newspaper article about this website. I had no idea anything out of the ordinary was associated with that spot. Thanks for the memories!

I often worked alone here at night. lots of banging, sounds of things being thrown around. several times saw three different [Asian] people- two young girls, one older man - fitting off in peripheral vision. eventually clearly saw main figure - a approx 18 year old [Asian woman] in a white calico smock with blue flowers - standing (actually floating 18" above the floor) just off my shoulder watching me work. had strong "impression" she asked me not to work after 9 pm. i complied and no more noise from that time. A very sensitive co-worker gave up evening work also - he never saw anything but felt was watched. his radio would turn off and on and switch channels. only happened at night. Other people felt weirded out but " don't want to talk about it". Supposedly originally building was a laundry.

Park at that address and walk east to the trailhead. It's a paved path, formerly a road. Growing up in the 70's my mom would drive us through this hairpin curved road with steep drop offs. It's dark and wooded. She told us of devil worship and ritual sacrifice that took place here. There are decaying cars where previous accidents have happened, lending to the creepy factor.

Alice B. Toklas Has Her Say
11/2018

Still slightly bleary-eyed from the previous night’s Thanksgiving feast (and accompanying drinks), my wife and I slipped into a Sorrento elevator and headed down to the hotel bar. We’d been to the hotel a few times at this point, having been captured by the charm of the old place, and by the ghost that was said to frequent its halls. Inspired by a few cocktails, I decided that now was the perfect time to ask about the rumored spirit of Alice B. Toklas. “I don’t have much to offer, outside of a few weird feelings and some strange noises,” said the bartender, drying a Champagne glass and sliding it into a stainless steel rack overhead. “Some of my co-workers have had some experiences, though…” As he began to share stories of wet footprints, faint appertains and flickering lights, another bar patron — seemingly compelled by a different kind of spirit — slurred in. “That’s all bullshit,” she blurted from the end of the bar. “Great way to sell rooms, but total bullshit, and you know it.” The bartender laughed. “I can’t argue with you,” he said, “because like I said: I haven’t had any experiences personally. I just know that quite a few people here have…” Un-quelled by his diplomatic response, she continued venting her disbelief. As her voice grew louder, I began to regret my question. What had started as a fun conversation had turned into a booze-fueled debunking tirade against all things unexplainable. Just as it seemed inevitable that someone would ask her to calm down, Ms. Toklas took matters into her own hands. Untouched by any human hand — and far from any perceivable passing forces — a glass from the overhead rack jumped from the stainless steel shackles and smashed at the feet of the bartender. The bar went silent. “Well, I guess I have my own story now,” said the bartender.

Terror at Fowler's Bog
03/1985

This happened to me when I was fifteen years old, the spring before I left home for good. I grew up in Maine. For those of you who think a trip to the Cascades is getting back to nature, Maine is the forest primeval. There's a reason Stephen King includes all those deep, dark, haunted forests in his books (the town which became his model for 'Salem's Lot lay about 20 miles from my front door, as the crow flies; the "Pet Semetary" was disturbingly close by). Albion was the name of my home town, founded in 1754. It's only claim to fame is as the birthplace of Elijah Lovejoy, the first recorded American martyr for the press. The inhabitants had long since forgotten the significance of the town's namesake and had allowed the burg to fade into the kind of decaying, vapid decrepitude one expects from such tiny, isolated hamlets. It was part H.P. Lovecraft and part "'Salem's Lot," without the literary references and artistic punch of either. There were more cows than people in Albion, its economy based almost entirely on milk production. Those few who were not dairy farmers comprised the tiny merchant class, the even tinier landed gentry and the backwoods homesteaders. Most people think New England has four seasons, but Maine actually has two: Winter and Several Weeks of Very Chilly Weather. There is also a subseason, known to most locals as "Mud." Once, during the first week of Mud, some high school friends and I went off into the aforementioned forest primeval, engaged in our primary occupation: Avoiding School. We left town by way of an old logging trail that ran behind the general store ("H.L. Keay & Son, since 1850: If we don't have it, you don't need it!") and cut across thawing farmland and thickets until we reached the edge of Fowler's Bog. This was a vast expanse of dense marshland which stretched from Albion to the Unity town line, eight miles away. In the winter, when the bog was frozen, you could walk, ski or snowmobile across its surface safely, but for the rest of the year it was as treacherous a piece of ground as you could wish. We skirted the edge of the bog for several miles, admiring the first signs of spring (or Very Chilly Weather) in the forest around us. Finally, we reached our destination, an old, tumbledown hunting cabin along the edge of the bog, its boards weathered and gray in stark contrast to the emerging greenery of the woods. We remained there for several hours as the sun made its way quickly across the sky, talking, joking and speculating on the quality of existence outside Albion and Maine. Dark came early at that time of year, and before too long the shadows were lengthening rapidly as the sun began to slide down behind the trees. Now, we'd literally grown up in those woods and knew them very well: Fowler's Bog and the surrounding forest held no secrets for us. More than once we'd navigated our way home well after dark without so much as a stubbed toe. But not this time. Somehow, our little group became separated. Maybe the others left us behind intentionally, maybe we just weren't paying attention for once, I don't know. But it was nearly full dark when my friend Matt and I realized the others were not to be seen. We laughed about it, thinking they'd either gone ahead to lay in ambush and scare us as we made our way through the dark woods, or they'd taken a wrong turning somewhere up ahead and would no doubt catch us up later. So we continued apace, talking and laughing, until Matt stopped and jerked his head up and asked "What the hell is that?!??" I looked to where he pointed. I have seen bears, moose, wolves, coyotes, porcupines, foxes, deer, raccoons, coyotes and bobcats, all in their natural habitats. I have seen some weird things in those woods, things I cannot to this day adequately explain. This was one of them. I can still recall the unfamiliar feeling of abject terror; it was the first and only time in my life I've ever been utterly helpless with fear. It was quite big. It was very, very black. And it made the most terrifying sound I have ever heard in my life as it made its way through the underbrush not twenty feet away from where we stood. We didn't see it clearly, thanks to the darkness and intervening foliage. It crossed our path and went down into the bog, still making that noise. Then we heard a muffled "splash;" later we agreed it must have plunged into the bog at a deep spot. I never told my parents, but Matt told his and, being members of the landed gentry, they called the local sheriff who took us out there a couple of days later. Matt's parents came with us. We found the place easily enough, and there was plenty of evidence of the thing's passage: A swath of crushed forest underbrush crossed from the treeline down to the bog. Had we wished to, we could have easily followed it back into the forest. But the sheriff said it was a trail left by a couple of big bears and said we were lucky not to have been charged or even mauled. Matt's parents looked at the sheriff as though he'd just told them he was a space alien and would we mind joining him on Mars for tea? Matt's father called the sheriff every conceivable kind of ass, pointing out what we all knew: No bear or anything else we'd ever seen made that trail. But the sheriff just stood there calmly and took the verbal abuse, and after Matt's father had finished he quietly said the matter was closed and asked us not to make too much of it. That was the very last time my friends and I ever went near Fowler's Bog.

Bigfoot Sighting
01/2005

A friend and I were outside talking sometime after midnight. We heard loud, stomping sounds approaching. We stopped talking and froze. After a few seconds of silence I said "What the fuck was that?" Before my friend could answer, we heard a sound from trees about 10ft away. It sounded as if it was lion's growl coming through a horse's muzzle. We bolted to the house and woke up our friends to tell them the story. They convinced us someone was outside messing with us so all of us went outside to investigate. Armed with flashlights, baseball bats and golf clubs when searched around the house and found nothing. The search stopped when we heard the neighbors scream and all their exterior lights came on. A man came out yelling. We ran to their house and explained we heard them yelling and why we were out at this late hour. I asked if anyone else was thinking Bigfoot. The neighbors then said they had seen a Bigfoot looking into their window at that's why they were out there. We stayed there for maybe 20min talking and listening for anything else strange but nothing else was seen or heard.

The Place of Transient Tunes and Spectres

The Off-The-Wagon Dueling Piano Bar in historic Asheville has a great theme: Get your kicks while listening to impromptu "piano duels" by multiple artists throughout the evening. However, the bar is located in a historic building with an ominous history. There's been a few clubs, bars, dives, speak-easy's in this building, and before that, it was overflow for an ER response to pioneer-era epidemics. One of the more notable historic aspects of the bar was the fact a previous club had sooo much crime in it, cops were called several times a night. I spoke to a local historian that found reports of at least two stabbings and one fatal incident at the location during "modern" history. The bar is full of 'energy' -you can feel it when you walk in. To normal folks, it's just the lively activity of a bar, but others feel eyes or figures standing in the shadows, just out of view. Two people on my investigative team have reported a tall black figure with a stove-pipe hat lingering near the front entrance inside the bar, near the ATM. He'll stand over people and then disappear when you look dead-center in that direction. My friend, an energy worker, has been touched a couple times by what she can only describe as a dark, masculine presence. I've set up my camera several times at this location, only to have it tampered with and shut off. The way my camera is setup, you have to physically turn the knobs to turn it off, even if the battery dies (the knob just stays in the power on position). I've captured EVP of a ghost saying where in the bar I was located, and how many other spirits are in the location. K2 meter readings have been debunked in the women's bathroom, however, there's very strange K2 and EMF readings that MOVE in the men's bathroom. The organization Haunted Asheville has footage from the owner of the bar showing the back doors opening and closing on their own. Submitted by CreepGeeks

"The Whatzit"
01/1957

In the late 1950’s residents of the suburbs of Detroit, Michigan told stories to their friends and neighbors of seeing a large rat-like creature that walked upright. William Liberman of Huntington Woods said the creature attacked his dog and during the fight “leaped over the fence of the backyard” and vanished into the night. "The Whatzit", as newspapers called it, was said to have enormous ears and a long tail. Over the course of three weeks it was spotted by a number of witnesses. Eventually The Whatzit was caught! Police officer James T. Mavis,of the Huntington Woods Police department, thought the strange animal was a type of Chinchilla although he said the only chinchilla he had ever seen was in an encyclopedia. The police department fed The Whatzit dog food while they waited to turn the creature over to the Detroit Zoo. Later in the day a zoologist arrived and could not immediately identify the creature. Possession of The Whatzit was turned over to the Detroit Zoo and strangely the creature was never mentioned again. Submitted by John E.L. Tenney

A Field in England
06/2019

While cycling in the countryside in June I saw a middle aged man kneeling in an empty field. His back was to me but I could see him tidying something away into a satchel. I thought he could have been a metal detectorist or a geo cacher. He wasn't holding a metal detector though. He then got up and walked the 100m to his car, which was parked on the other side of the field gate. Once he had driven away I walked through the bramble hedge and into the field over to the place he had been. I couldn't see any disturbed earth, just badger fur and hay stubble. I did some research when I got back and determined: -There are no geocaches nearby -He wasn't facing east so probably wasn't praying -The nearby Ridgeway has been used as a cross country route for at least 5000 years -The equally nearby Harwell Campus has a variety of experimental systems, including a particle accelerator and a nuclear fusion reactor

They had no company logos or markings of any kind. I have no idea where they could be going because there isn't much out that way besides a steel plant and farmland. All the trucks I see around here have some kind of marking on them at least on the cab. These had absolutely nothing. It seemed really strange to me.

Black Rock Point
07/1969

In the summer of 1969 David Sears, a thoughtful young man from New York City had decided to spend the weekend on Block Island, a scenic teardop of sandy cliffs and grassland off of Rhode Island’s southern coast. David was eager to return to the island he had visited when he was younger. He had a friend who had planned to join him but the friend had backed out at the last minute. David was impatient, and decided to spend the night on the island alone, making plans to meet his friends at the ferry in New Shoreham the following morning. David was determined to camp on Block Island’s rugged southern coast. Block Island’s towering Mohegan Bluffs are on the Southern edge of the island and get their name from a terrible battle where the island’s Niantic peoples drove hundreds of invading Mohegans to their deaths in the mid 16th century. The bluffs and the rocky beach below are about a mile walk from the Southeastern corner of the island, home to the famous Southeast Light and the huge descending wooden staircase featured on every tourist postcard of the island. David was looking to make camp at the top of the bluffs when he came upon a weather-beaten wooden lean-to, looking to him like an old Boy Scout’s tent, half-sunken into the cliffside a little more than half way up. It was nine or ten feet long and barely five feet tall. David noticed that the wooden post facing the cliff was inscribed with an indecipherable writing that reminded him of Sanskrit or a far eastern script, although now he cannot recall what it looked like. He distinctly remembers the words were well-carved, the work of a skilled hand. It grew dark, the tide came in and brought a thick fog with it. As he settled in among the growing fog and the sounds of the waves crashing on the beach far below, he began to hear strange murmurings in the wind. At first he chalked it up to anxiety and to settle his nerves he tried to read. This being 1969 and David being a sensitive young artist, he tucked into his copy of a book by Jack Kerouac, but the author’s tales of being a forest ranger in the Pacific Northwest and encountering all kinds of strange happenings in those dark woods did little to snuff David’s growing fear. He put the book down, and that is when he began hearing the voices. David couldn’t discern at first if he was hearing the voices of multiple people—a ghostly conversation—or one singular disembodied voice. The words he heard were not recognizable but at the same time they weren’t clearly of another language. He cannot recall where this thought came from, but he had the distinct feeling that the voice or voices were from another time. To this day he does not know how or why he felt that, but the impression that what he was hearing was from a world other than our own was undeniable. He tried to parse out the conversation or failing that, individual words but he found it to be impossible. The language was too strange, the whispered voices too ephemeral. He heard a loud crash against the rocks below him, as if a huge stone had been smashed against the rocks. David scurried out of the tent and tried to call out to whoever or whatever was below him but it was too dark, he could discern nothing through the black and fog. Terrified, he began scrambling up the wet clay of the cliff face and unto the rubbery green flora that cover the tops of the bluff. He paused to catch his breath and was immediately bathed in a cone of blinding white light from above. The light obliterated the fog that had surrounded him, and peering up through his fingers to to make sense of what was happening he saw a large, dark wing gliding a dozen feet over his head, inexplicably between him and wherever the light’s source was. In those frozen seconds his mind raced—was it a bird? Could it see him? Was it coming for him? —and then he ran. He found his way through the darkness, scrub and vines to the road and waited for what seemed like an eternity. He saw headlights, and a car driven by a few year-round Block Islanders stopped and he hopped in. When he told them what had just happened to him they were astonished, but not by his story. “Look around!” they said, “These houses are all empty, no one lives on this part of the island.” “It’s haunted…” said the other. “Why were you out here?” In the years that passed whenever David thought about the incident on Block Island he thought about Native American myths of the Thunderbird and he thought of poltergeists, ghosts and hauntings. More recently, when telling one of his grandchildren the story, they responded that it sounded more like a UFO encounter—a dark black wing shape that slowly glides over the witness—and he is more inclined to think of it now in those terms. A few years after the sighting David returned to the island and walked west along the beach at Mohegan Bluffs out to Black Rock Point hoping to find the lean-to and identify, in daylight, where he had tried to camp. As he rounded the rocks at Black Rock Point he observed an elderly couple, sitting on a driftwood log. He said hello to them but they said nothing and just looked serenely towards the Atlantic Ocean and the horizon beyond. He didn’t see the lean-to, but he observed some wooden debris that he thought might be its remains. He walked back east up the beach and encountering some local beach walkers he mentioned the old, silent couple he had just seen around the point. “Oh.” The local man chuckled, “You saw them too?” This story was told to me by the witness as part of an investigation into MUFON case #99029 conducted during the summer of 2019. This story was originally published at www.StrangeObserver.com as "Terror on Block Island", I am the author of the piece and publisher of the website and I give permission to share it. -E. Smith

Toothsome Surprise

So we went to Taco Bell. Three drinks were ordered. I went to the drink dispenser and got some ice, handed over two iced cups to my spouse and kid, went over to the iced tea dispenser. Filled it and noticed someone's partial denture, floating in my cup. It had to have come out of the Ice Maker. I looked at my cup, looked at the teeth, handed it to my spouse and said " What the hell?" And just stood there confused. He went and got a new cup from the counter and my kid and I were just staring at each other and said "Crap! No one took a picture! No one will ever believe us!" I drank warm iced tea for lunch. The employee actually told my husband that "It must have been the cup factory." Whatever kid.

So idk what just happened... first off I’m sober as a rock been clean for just over 3 years . Anyways... I’m a little confused I was just walking my dog down the street a little late walk admit but on the way back I saw it looked initially like a light reflection off of the clouds are low cloud cover so I was watching it together maybe it’s a drone and then you can see it moving to the point where it looks like a bird flying but moving way too fast so I’ve seen what I thought to be on identified flying object before but they said no lights no indicator and it seem to be flying in a pattern in a circle so that maybe some of the drone and then it disappeared so I continued walking around the street and about maybe another block down and it returned I tried getting video on my phone but it’s just too dark looking at a black sky.. large repeating flight patterns changing direction very quick . Oh this is a completely new experience for me ; UFO? Spirit? Bird above cloud Cover? Silent drone? Something else entirely?. Thoughts?

Unknown Animal Soure
10/1989

Numerous people in the area have seen out-of-place animals, not native to the region, accompanied by mysterious Men in Beige. I myself was one of these people. I was in a field, with my father, when we spotted an ostrich, moving at high speed. As we wondered what to do, and planned to take plaster casts of the three-toed footprints, a good deal of time passed. Then, we witnessed a man in a beige "Safari-Style" outfit passing by, in an unmarked jeep with a cage on the back. He wore large aviator sunglasses and a pith helmet. There are no zoos or known menageries in the area. The Man in Beige simply peered at us and drove away. After telling this story to others, we found that we were not the only ones who reported such strange events. Others recalled seeing a man in beige driving a mysterious jeep with an animal caged in the rear. These include ostrich, zebra, and gazelle. This area is near a known UFO sighting (Flora MS UFO) and a military storage facility.

Shadow Man and More
01/2010

This was the most active haunting I had ever experienced. Activity began within a week of moving in. We rented this home from a police officer and his family. His family left for CA, and he stayed behind to rent the house and finish packing their belongings. It was a cute but outdated ranch with a drive under basement/ garage. The garage basement was the main reason we couldn’t pass up the opportunity since my husband has every tool under the sun, and he could set up shop at home. About the 3rd night in the house, we were awoke to the sound of the garage door opening up at 2AM. We wondered if someone was breaking in. My husband grabbed his gun, and did a perimeter check. No one was there… Our son was still asleep in his bed. We closed the garage door and went back to sleep. It happened again and again. We contacted the landlord and he got a new opener for the house. It happened randomly, but less frequent, because now other things are starting to happen. We believe that there were 2 entities, so I’ll discuss the tolorable energy first. He was a masculine energy with a protective vibe. I feel like he didn’t realize that he was gone. He stayed in the front living room, which was the kids TV/ gaming room. Next to that room was the dining room and a door to the kitchen off that room. The door would close to the kitchen. Which I preferred open. We might hear random noise or foot steps in the front rooms, but didn’t feel threatened with the energy. It just felt like he was waiting for his wife to come home and just hung out in the front room where you can see the driveway and could a sac. As we began to notice, feel, and discuss the energy and subtle occurrences of doors opening and sounds in the house, then it began to feel more intense. Mainly for myself and sometimes with my husband. It may have been because negative energy feeds on negative emotions. I was unhappy in that house and having to move from my dream house to this out dated house in a new town. I began to feel a depression, despite my best friend living in Santa Fe. I believe that made me a target. I think my fear and sadness fed this entity. My husband probably did too with his worries and understanding that I was unhappy. Many nights were sleepless nights because the activity was almost always during bed time. I could feel a presence in the corner next to my side of the bed. There was a door leading to the master bath and closet on that wall, and it was lurking in the corner. It just came from the shadow of the corner and stood over me, watching me. I felt that intense stare, and would usually turn over, pull the covers over my head, and try to ignore it. But it feels so penetrating. Little did I know that it was about to become more physical. I always knew when the”shadow man” was up to something because pets are aware of the energy as well. My dog ,Coco, would stand at the end of our bed barking and snarling at nothing just before something was about to happen. She was on alert. My other dog Lady liked staying in the front living room in her favorite chair. Coco is more of a pack dog and stuck with us, slept with us, and wanted to protect us. One night, she woke us up barking and snarling. Suddenly the bedroom door slammed closed. My husband and I sat up in bed staring at the door. I grabbed Coco since she was going nuts, to calm her. Brandon, of course, had to rule out the reality that someone could be in the house so he grabbed his gun and did a walk through the house. Our son was sleeping in bed, and didn’t wake up through the noise. Brandon came back to bed and I said “shadow man, again”. He said “I guess.” Another beautiful fall night, I had the windows open throughout the house. We were abruptly awoken to the loud “slam”. Again we sat up and noticed the bedroom door flying closed, but what was the originating slamming sound?? We realized that the window had slammed closed. This time I was more freaked out. I just laid back down and pulled blankets over my head. Brandon grabbed Coco and just did the same this time. We named the entity “shadow man” because our son said he saw the shadow man walking down the hall. Our friends would also catch a glimpse of him too. My best friend’s husband was more skeptical of the other worldly side, but had seen it as well. My son said that his toys were being moved. He had a hermit crab aquarium and would find his bionical toys inside the aquarium. Fortunately, he wasn’t going through the same things we were. He said he mostly got scared seeing a shadow walk down the hall past his door. One summer night, I was hot, so as I was sleeping, I had my right leg outside of the blankets in bed. I began to feel that penetrating stare to my right. Suddenly I felt someone pinch and slide their index finger and thumb on my upper thigh. This time I was pissed. I actually verbalized “get the f#$k out of my house, and don’t f#$king touch me” Brandon awoke and said what are you doing? I told him that I was pinched. I had nowhere to go… I had to just get under the covers and try and sleep. Now this next occurrence, I’m not sure if it was my very first sleep paralysis event or something else. I was dreaming at first but then woke up because I felt someone holding my shoulders down to the bed. I opened my eyes to see, but no one is over me. I was looking around trying to make sense of why I can’t move, and finally I found my voice. I began screaming and crying. I’ve never had sleep paralysis, but I researched the shit out of it. I never have experienced it again, either. The dream I was having at the time may have been important because it was about a car accident and I was being strapped to the strecher or board. I had other dreams of car crashes that involved Brandon, so I was getting a feeling that something was coming. An accident of sorts. A couple weeks later, I was rear-ended on the interstate, leaving Nashville. When I was strapped to the stretcher board in the ambulance, it was like de ja vus… This time, there were EMS professionals over me. Another occurrence, which was my husband’s… He woke me up by grunting “owww, What the f#$k was that?”. I said “what happened?” He replied, “I was scratched up my back.” We both got up from bed to find scratches on his back. Around our anniversary, in December, we went out. While driving, Brandon said to me that he had been scratched, but also felt that he was punched on his back another time. He said we can’t discuss the entity in the house any more, because he felt that the more attention we pay to it, the stronger it becomes. I agreed to not talk about it in the house, but fell short of that one last time. I came home from work, and I was showering. I felt like something was out side the shower curtain. I’m naked, vulnerable, and had to look. But nothing, no one.. I am beginning to think that I am going crazy, and I just lost it. Every emotion surfaced and I am sobbing. Brandon comes running to my rescue and comforts me. I explained that I am leaving, with or without him. I was ready to fight for my sanity. Every penny was being saved to move out of this hell hole. Kiki, my medium friend, that also worked with paranormal research in TN, was invited to walk through the house. She said that she felt like the land was the problem. Something bad happened on the land ages ago (before development of subdivisions) She recommended saging, salting the perimeter, and quartz placement at the NSEW points of the property. We did this, and finally things got better. Much less active. We finally were at a point that we could afford to move away as well. The landlord was going to rent it still, and I wonder if the new family that was moving in had any experiences. We lived there for 2 years. I hated that house and the baggage in it. I believe that the owner’s family left in a hurry and they could not afford to buy another house. I totally understand how you can’t always afford to leave a haunting…

I was sitting in a chair facing a glass wall/entryway when I saw someone I didn't recognize start walking across the doorway and disappeared before they reached the other side. This was during a regular workday and the man was wearing business casual clothes.

Old Olalla Cemetery
09/2019

This is the location of the abandoned Old Olalla Cemetery where many of the victims of the nearby "Starvation Heights" are rumored to be laid to rest. "Starvation Heights" was an early 20th century 'clinic' run by Dr. Linda Hazzard who was arrested for starving her "patients" to death. You can read more about Starvation Heights here. This is a beautiful, quiet, and rather overgrown cemetery that has no real marked entrance. You have to walk into the woods, cross a small creek, and climb a hill. At the very top there are broken headstones and a large fallen tree and usually some candle wax from "teens" doing various forms of divination. Listen to the That's Weird podcast episode about Starvation Heights here [youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0fgzptfBBgQ&w=560&h=315]

Undiscoverable Animals
01/2007

There's a curious sentence painted into the brick of a Grand Forks alleyway, which has been slowly fading for at least twelve years as of the time of writing this. It reads as follows: "Animals who have escaped man's sensory organs through means of camouflage are here." Most of the remainder is illegible, but there's a bit more at the bottom of the wall: "will return." One can't help but feel watched while thinking about those words. They are beyond falsifiability, and remind us that the most well-camouflaged organisms on Earth will never be discovered.

Elephant Machine Loves Ruth
08/1999

This episode that happened to me and my friend Alice, is really silly, and weird , makes no sense at all. We were in the East Mall in Regina, after most of the shops were closed, and were taking a short cut to the parking lot. The mall was open, till midnight,. We were alone, and there was a pharmacy we had to pass to leave the mall. It was closed and a kind of trellis security blind over the who store front, ( like the old time elevators) . Outside of this were a bubble gum machine, of an elephant, and about 6 ft away another machine, where you put in a coin and the animatronic fortune teller would say something and you'd get your fortune on a card. As we were about to pass the Elephant machine lit up and said , 'Ruth, I love you, I love you'. My friend and I looked at each other and burst out laughing. Just as we were about to say something. The fortune Teller animated and said 'Hello Ruth'. We laughed again and said "come on whoever you are we know you are there." However when we looked around there were no places where anyone could hide, we could see straight into the store, and the machines lit up and in fact were not plugged in as the leads went into the store and we could see that they were unplugged. We didn't know how fast to get out of there. We just couldn't believe such a bizarre and meaningless thing had happened. It made no sense at all. Next day we went back to the store and the machines were gone. I asked where the machines were and was given a vague answer about maintenance and that was that.

Saskatchewan Time Slip
09/2015

One night, about 6pm September 2015, I was driving from Regina to the rural town where I live, about 40 miles away on a road with scattered farms,There was very little traffic,if any that I remember. A trip I have taken hundreds of times, just a straight, dark road with only vehicle headlights for illumination. I was humming to myself and just thinking , as you do, without a radio. I suddenly thought, it was taking a long time to reach my turn off, and it wasn't there. I thought I had somehow missed it in the dark so would have to drive to the next town which was Indian Head, pop. 2,000, and turn around. I was mad at myself so drove the next 10 miles, but when I got to where Indian Head was supposed to be, it was totally different. There were 2 big gas stations across from each other (where a small motel was before) and they were lit up like Christmas trees, the whole town looked lit up with lots of new buildings. I was very disturbed and thought I was losing my mind. I thought that somehow, I was going in the wrong direction. I was feeling afraid and confused, I decided to keep on driving I drove for perhaps another 20 miles but nothing was familiar until I came to the town of Wolseley. I crossed the highway and sat on the side of the road, I tried to figure things out. I knew that my town wasn't this far out of Regina, so I decided to go back and drive very slowly. Eventually I saw the Indian Head turn off, exactly as it should be. No lights, little motel, modest gas station opposite. I was so relieved. I drove on to my turn off , exactly as it should be and went home. I was pretty shaken up and found that a trip that should have taken 1 hour had taken 5. I can't even speculate what happened. They have since made major changes to the highways but nothing like the changes I saw.

God's Acre

Drive south from Columbia, into the domain of the Lizard Man, and you will eventually arrive at a spring next to a church on land deeded to God. This is still on the books, as of 2019, and has never been legally disputed. This is a place of overlapping traditions and origins steeped in rumor, the most famous of which involves mortally wounded soldiers returning after being left for dead in its waters. Arrive today, and you will see the people of the Midlands lined up with gallon jugs at the water's edge. Sometimes you will find small shrines, and offerings of vegetables. Whatever spirit is here, it is trusted, and has formed relationships with those who come to it. I arrived in darkness in with a colleague of mine, on clear roads. Upon our return down the same roads, they were covered in leaves which had suddenly fallen from the trees, and no other cars had been through to clear them. A great light shone from between a set of trees, perhaps a mile out from the site, and appeared to fill an entire field beyond, shining upwards towards low clouds. I never got a closer look, and oddly, didn't give the incident much thought until nearly a year later, when it suddenly became clear to me how strange the return to Columbia had been.

Shadow Person in Hedge
09/2019

I've always been leery of people talking about Shadow Figures, but the other night I was driving a friend home. We turned in to the manufactured home park where he lives. There is a grade school that backs on to the park, with high hedges around it except at one point, there is a ten-foot gap in the hedge. As we were passing it, I saw a black figure looking very flat, like it was cut out of cardboard, RUN past the gap. I thought it was weird, and said something to my friend who didn't see it. A couple of days later, I was there in the daytime and looked through the gap. There was a drop of three feet, so it couldn't have been a person running by. I just wish my friend had seen it.

Ghost of an Older Man
12/2019

My grandparent's house, that I grew up in, is haunted by an older man who is confused by why my grandmother passed away. He didn't haunt the house while she was alive, just after she passed. Now it's so bad we can't step foot in the place and it's been condemned. The lights turn on and off, I would hear boots on the linoleum, and my grandmother's coffee cup we kept on the table would slide across it like someone was pushing it. I've seen a roll of paper towels get lifted, I've heard him laugh after I told a dirty joke. I see him every now and then in the window when I go to look at the outside of the house. He just looks sad.

Zigzag UFO
12/2019

I was standing outside at night. Around 8:30pm. It was about 30 degrees outside with clear skies. I saw something in the distance that I initially thought was an airplane, but it was too bright and changing colors rapidly. The colors cycled through red, blue, white, and green so rapidly that it almost glittered. As I watched it in the east, it suddenly zig zagged back and forth and then took off very fast in a northerly direction. It made no sound.

Between Three Bridges and Haywards Heath
09/2008

I spent a lot of 2008/09 going to and from Brighton on the train, on a journey which would last up to two hours. I'd often end up on the last train of the night, making stops at tiny provincial stations. One night at around 1 am the train was waiting for the line to clear at Three Bridges a dark haired girl with a cheerful round face and my age sat up in the seat In front of me and turned around. It was just the two of us on a two-carriage train, and she started a conversation about how she'd just flown back from visiting her family in Dublin. We made small talk, and I was young and unwordly enough at the time (16) that I didn't consider any particular motivation for her starting a conversation. The train was beginning to move forward and left the station quite slowly, Once it had left the town the only light was the squares of amber projected from the train, scanning the embankment alongside the tracks. ....We looked from the window down at the stubble in the field below. As the light framed a patch of weeds the girl began to say how she had fond memories of collecting the dry thistle-heads as a child. We both turned and looked out across the field. I was just think long of what to say, and for a split second my eyes refocused on our reflection in the window. She looked like she was screaming at full volume, her head back and her mouth stretching open, her throat was thick with the air in it and her wide eyes were focused on mine. I turned to look up at her straight away and she wasn't in the middle of yawning, just silently looking from the window into the night. I was lost for words and she smiled politely and continued to look out to the fields. She got off a couple of minutes later and I spent the rest of the journey trying not to catch my own reflection....

Lettuce Apparition

Found a bagged lettuce near a pasture. I'm not familiar with this brand of lettuce. When I picked it up it was still cold as though thrown from the nearby road, but why? No trucks pass this way, it's December (not bbq season), and this is a very small town. The horses were nowhere near the fence and the bag was still taped closed.

Tigard Triangle
11/2012

I have lived in this house for seven years now, and the strangeness began about a month after I moved in. At least, that's when I noticed it. I would see something small and black close to the ground out of the corner of my eye, and of course when I would turn my head to look it would be gone. It didn't feel threatening, so I wasn't concerned as much as I was curious. I was thinking it may be the spirit of a little cat. Why a cat? Because the two concrete steps out the back door have kitty paw prints, like the cat jumped onto the top step and when it was wet, the cat ran down across the bottom step, leaving a little trail of kitty prints. So, I began to talk in the house when I was alone the same way I talked to the animals who have shared a home with me. I would say things like, "It's OK littles, don't run away" when I would see the shadow out of the corner of my eye, wondering if I could convince it to freely show itself or at least not hurry away. After living here for a few months and continuing to see things and talk to them, I think it finally knew I was safe to be around. Since then, I will feel something land on the bed and then tiny steps. When I move they stop. This still happens, along with seeing the shadow. I did not have any animals living in the house when I moved in. I do have two cats living with me now, and they, like many cats, tend to stare at things in corners or up near the ceiling and will sometimes chase things I don't see, although it could be a little bug or reflection that they notice and I don't. A few times I have thought one of them jumped up on the bed when I was sleeping, but when I looked to see where they were, there was no cat in the room. I have also had both of them in bed and asleep with me, and I will feel another set of tiny feet jump up onto the bed. The cats don't seem to mind, but they do usually reposition themselves after this happens. That's my curious cat spirit experience.

UFO Sighting
01/2012

(Original in Portuguese-- translation via Google Translate) At the time of 2012 I lived in a country town and studied at a college in Cuiabá, in the state capital, so on long holidays and vacations I traveled to my city, most often by bus and sometimes with relatives or friends of car. I was driving back to the capital by the Estrada da Guia (MT-010), when the UFO sighting occurred, inside the car were me, my mother and three other friends, the road a little winding and with gentle hills, but even with this change of view did not interfere with what we saw, for a distance of about 15 km we saw a point of white light next to a cloud near the horizon, but it was clear that it was in front of the cloud, close to us, for the winding road has given us this perspective. This light was steady and flashing and also changing size, time was very small almost disappearing and another time became large, until in a moment this light became so small that it disappeared for a few seconds and soon appeared again, but increased the frequency in that flickered and changed size, until in a moment that light flew at a very fast speed behind the cloud, for it was clear that the light made the outline of the cloud, and so it disappeared for the last time. * There are several reports of roadside light sightings in the state of Mato Grosso, so much so that my mother has an account of another light sighting that accompanied her on a winding dirt road in the north of the state.

Scary Hairless Cryptid
06/2000

I know the rules say that first person reports are preferred, but this is a strange story that my son encountered while walking through this park one evening. This is what happened in his words: My friend and I were still feeling a slight buzz when we left his house on a breezy summer evening. Having spent the late afternoon hanging out in my friends parents basement, trolling our friends on facebook and drinking a few cans of beer he had stashed underneath the stairs, we decided to meet some friends at the mall. Neither one of us had any bus money so they decided to walk the 3 miles to get to our destination. Wanting to shave off some time, we decided to cut through a wooded trail situated along a major highway that led into a tree covered park area. On the other side of the long winding forested path, was a large shopping center where the mall was based. If you passed by the trail during the day, you'd rarely see anyone walking or biking along it so it seemed a bit ominous but there was also a large pond inside the forested area that was rumored to have been a decent fishing spot and that made it a bit more approachable to some. As we made our way over a small bridge and through a dimly lit tunnel, we talked and joked about things that most teens did and we felt relatively safe walking through the semi dark pathway. But about 10 minutes later, we came upon a second bridge that led to the edge of a large semi dark opening in the woods. Even though the area lacked proper lighting, I noticed a shape hunched over something in the distance. This part of the woods was lit only by the soft light of the full moon which helped us navigate our way ahead. I stopped walking first and then my friend came to a halt as well. From where I stood, I thought it was a man possibly tending to his dog during a nightly walk, but the abrupt silence as we neared the end of the overpass, brought on a strange sense of weirdness. Like something inside my head was telling me to not get any closer. A couple of more cautious steps forward and we were able to see that the form hunched over wasn't really a person at all...IT was bent over what appeared to be a young deer, and was feasting hungrily, making deep groaning sounds ... My friend grabbed me by the elbow and I quickly turned to face him, noticing the shock on his face as he silently worded "WTF is that"????? I turned my head back around slowly, feeling terror pounding loudly in his chest as I took another look at the gigantic, hairless giant about 30 ft from us. My friend stupidly moved in front of me to get a closer look, almost in awe of what he was seeing and as he approached the end of the bridge, he clumsily stepped into a small pile of rocks, which made a loud, crunching noise that was hugely emphasized by the dead silence of the night. The beast then stood up and turned his head, staring in our direction. In the darkness, I estimated that he had to have been at least 8 feet tall with long muscular arms and seemed hairless. I cant even tell you what color he was, but he was huge! My friend's eyes widened as he realized the monster was staring right at us. And before I could give the creature a chance to advance, I turned around and began to run as fast as I could. My heart was pounding, as I ran the 2 miles it took to get back to the other side of the trail. In my terror I almost forgot about my friend and finally forced myself to look back to see if he was behind me as I got closer to the entrance of the park. Seconds later I heard the sound of tired, thumping feet emerging from the darkness. As my friend approached me he demanded "Why did you leave me like that shithead"?? trying hard to work his way back to normal breaths. I looked at him and said "If you want to go back and find out what that thing was, you go ahead and do that but I'm going home". To this day I have never gone back into those woods. That was 10 years ago and I still don't know what I saw and I also remember having trouble sleeping for days after seeing that strange creature. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Let me say that I have tried to look up stories online about cryptid stories in Delaware and cant find any. We have a lot of strange hauntings and even UFO sightings but not cryptid that I can find. One interesting thing I wanted to add. I'd never heard of Richard Shaver's or his experiences until about a month ago when I was watching a you tube video about Brenton Sawin's encounter with a strange being. He referred to Richard Shaver's lifelong experiences with similar strange beings. If you read Richard Shaver's stories about Deros and Teros and their underground civilization, you will find that he mentions that there are entrances to the underground cave systems that lead to these civilizations and one can be found in Delaware, as well as other places in the east coast. He never gave up the area where that entrance is, but I find it very interesting! And then I thought about my son's experience and wondered if somehow they were connected? I don't know, but it's a thought.

Weird Hijinks at the Guardians
12/2019

I was driving down the national trails highway (route 66) from Beatty, NV where I had slept in a rest stop overnight. I noticed this strange statue in the sand to the side of the highway near Amboy, CA but kept going. Once I saw the second same statue a bit down the road I decided to pull off and take pictures. There were 2 large stone foo dogs (.4 mile apart) facing toward the mountains, desert and caves across the highway. The dirt around the statues was torn up like someone had made a labyrinth like path around the property between the two statues with a truck. I took photos and when I got service a bit down the road (once I got to the only gas station for miles) I posted them online. I started driving toward Joshua Tree, right as I passed the chloride mines I decided to pull off again to find my cigarettes, I checked my twitter and was told I should post my findings on this site. That's where the story really begins. If you are looking for a fun roadtrip stop, you can stop reading now, you have all you need, google "guardian lions of route 66" (even though they arent lions lol) and go take a visit! So I circled back to the statues since I was only 10 min or so down the rd and wanted to get photos of the first one I had passed if I was gonna make a post. It's a long stretch of highway, no one, no towns for miles and miles. I pull off again this time by the first statue and take some pictures, I have my two dogs with me walking, I decide to go down towards the other one as a car pulls up by the first one, shortly after another car pulls up. I hadn't seen anyone pull off all day and I assumed these people were together based on how quickly the came one after the other. I saw the girl who had came in the second car walk towards the statue to take pics. I didnt see the first person while walking. As I'm coming back towards the car I pop out to check on the car (its unlocked and a good minute walk away) and I see a man get out of MY car. In a panic I shout "HEY" then quickly realize he may have some kind of weapon so I shut up, but to my surprise instead of fighting or running off he began giving a panicked excuse while walking to his car about "checking the car because it was just sitting there" as this unfolds the other girl had started walking back to her car. I was able to stand near her and thankfully since she happend to be another punky 20 something year old girl in the middle of the desert parked at this structure at the same time as me he must have thought we were together or something and felt outnumbered. When I got back to my car... nothing was taken. Remember I said I watched him get out of the car BEFORE I shouted at him, he didnt see me behind the bushes and he already knew that other woman was there since she pulled in right behind him. The car was on (push to start) and my purse AND backpack were in the front seat completely untouched (I had a box balancing on the bag and the purse was still jammed in the same position. The ONLY thing in the ENTIRE car that was out of place was my back seat. He had taken a pillow out of the space between the back seat and the back of the passenger seat and grabbed a book I had hid under there (my dog sometimes gets sick in the back seat and I didnt want her to ruin my book, a $3 pillow can be replaced) it was a book on Pagan nature religions, and placed it on the back seat. Too panicked and scared to even think about this weirdness too hard, I called the police in a panic as he pulled off and I told the girl it was okay if she went since i was gonna call the police. I had no service but i guess you can dial 911 anyway? Or maybe i just got lucky? Well the police never ACTUALLY came. So I guess not. Sat there for almost 2 hours with my dogs in the back terrified that man would come back any minute and hurt me and afraid to drive alone home (theres few routes out from there what if he passed me? Theres no cell reception either!) While sitting there I began gathering some really strange questions and discovered some curious, curious things about this site. I have an interest in weird stuff but I did NOT have an intricate knowledge of any of this stuff beyond Bes & Ba. The statues are located next to amboy Crater. Amboy Crater is a site with a history of "satanic" lore, if you do a google search you will get a creepypasta and several similar "satanic panic" tales. While trying to research the root of the satanic lore the only thing I could find was well.... babalon working. So here's where it gets weird... Journey to the center of the earth was filmed in Amboy, CA. Jules Verne used the theories of Humphry Davy (the chemist who discovered the nature of Chloride.) Humphry David was pals with no other than Aleister Crowley. What is on the other side of the Guardian statues? Drum roll please..... chloride mine! Theres about 400000000 other weird things on the site ranging from Ba, Bes, asterism, salt symbols, maps, Rose written or drawn. If you have done your homework you know why I'm writing this post and how unbelievably weird this experience was and the potential answers this site or whoever is taking care of it holds

Church Clapper
12/2019

Yesterday, my Mother was helping a friend at her church. She was carrying in some things from the car to go through the main hall to a side/back room, and when she was walking she heard clapping, three then two claps. There was nobody else in the building at the time, and the friend was outside and met her at the door seconds later from the outside. Others have reported hearing things and feelings of being watched. I m investigating soon, personally.

Look Up In The Trees
12/2019

Look up in the trees. They are hard to see but way up high are at least 50 or baby doll heads nailed to the branches. Some hang from trees some are whole baby dolls. All have paint or something that’s supposed to be blood coming out of them some have their eyes gone some are missing limbs. How did they get up there? The branches of theses trees are slim they won’t support a person. Who would do that?

From Tao Came One
01/2009

my daughter and i were living with my parents, and i slept on the sofa in the living room. one night, at some point after i fell asleep as normal, i found myself suspended in an empty, dark space surrounded by 3 faceless humanoid forms that (and this is the best i can describe it) shone darkly. they are equidistant from one another, suspended in this dark space around me about four arm lengths away from me. they are each casting or spinning webs or bands of a dark static-y material around me, binding my arms to my sides, my legs together. there were muffled, indistinct sounds. there was a faint ozone smell. i feel these entities are malicious and attacking me, trying to...trap? me, to control me and i know without a doubt that if they do, i am lost. not dead, but lost and without hope. i am physically unable to fight back, and it occurs to me to start praying. i am not a christian, so i begin reciting aloud the 42nd chapter of the tao te ching: from tao came one from one came two from two came three from three came ten thousand things... (side note: as a self-spun taoist, i see that passage as describing the fundamental unity everything is rooted in and springs from; what the judeo-christian paradigm refers to as god with a capital g.) it is at that point that i wake up ever so slightly in the air over the sofa ( like i had fallen onto it from a decent height and rebounded off it and woke up as i reached the apex and start back down) and land. i am not groggy. i am now wide awake. and the experience had no dream-like qualities (besides perhaps the muffled sound). the images and...feelings were as real as everyday life. i talked to my parents about it when they woke up later that morning. being christians, they asked if i prayed to jesus for help and i told them no, and repeated the lines i had spoken. they seemed more than a little disappointed in and dubious of my choice of supplication.

The Big House (2)
01/1974

This is another story from the Big House i lived in as a toddler. we owned two cats, shadowfax (a large long-haired black tom) and nerd (a female short-haired brindle). nerd had recently had kittens and we had found homes for all of them. one day soon after i was spinning around making myself dizzy (as a 3 year-old will do). i was in the open space between the living and dining rooms, with a doorway leading to the hall that accessed the bedrooms and bathroom. against the wall, next to the doorway was a china cabinet. so i was spinning (living, dining, cabinet, door) and spinning (living, dining, cabinet, door) and on one revolution i see a marmalade kitten sitting in front of the china cabinet. not nerd, or shadowfax or any of the kittens we had already found homes for. i revolve around and come to a stop facing the cabinet and there is no kitten. i called for my mom and we searched the house. no kitten.

The Big House
01/1974

In this instance, i have no real memory of the events because i was a toddler, but i still clearly remember the layout of the house and the location of the following incident(s) in the house. my mother found me, several times, sitting on the 3rd stair from the bottom of the staircase that lead to the second floor of our house. i would be sitting there, looking up at the stairs directly above me. she said i looked like i was listening to someone talking to me, and that occasionally i would reply. if this were the only odd thing to happen in that house (refered to as the Big House), it could be chalked up too a child's imagination. but my mother, father and i all had other experiences in the Big House that shed a different light on things. i will elaborate those stories in other submissions.

Various Manifestations
05/2000

My home is haunted. I've been living in my home for almost 20 years and since day one there has been paranormal activity from someone knocking on doors to people walking through our home and objects flying off of the kitchen walls. My grandson who is 5 years old sees a man walking around our home and always asks me who he is. I have saved and have incorporated crystals into my home to keep some of the negative energies away but there is definitely a portal of some kind because they don't stay away for long. I've never had my house investigated because my husband wouldn't like the intrusion but I may one day.

Terror Creature
07/1977

July of 1977 while on a camping excursion with one friend encountered a beast that was not see but heard that ran toward us in the dark. It was big enough to tear the limbs off trees coming down and coming up from a 250 foot deep gully. Could not see creature but it came within 50 feet of us but never stepped out from tree line. On a moonless night. The deep growly scream reminiscent of a Bobcat was terrifying. Thing is Bobcats don't sound like adult bulls running through the trees at a fast pace hearing the crashing of smaller trees and branches being knocked of when beast was coming toward us. The sound of this creature is forever etched in memory. One could tell that a pack of hounds was chasing it but did not catch up to it. It never revealed itself and we were so terrified we never stepped out of our small cabin until daybreak. We then walked area where creature had came from toward us and found the broken branches and limbs but no other evidence. It was a scary time. Later in years on same property more sightings of various things.

Multiple aerial sightings high up beyond atmosphere and low level just above tree top level (2000 feet or less) of fast moving 90 degree turning lighted flying machine or other unknown object. At least 20 sighting per night, perhaps 5 daytime sighting per week for approximately 2 months. No trail from any type of exhaust, no noise that was detectable. No specific shapes, simply light that moved in straight lines with abrupt change in direction.

Strange White Animals
01/2004

For about 5 years (about 2004-2009ish) my brother and myself witnessed a high number of white/albino animals in our town. We saw at least one white animal a day (we didnt own any of them) either outside our house, on our way to school or sometimes at school. The most memorable ones were an owl sitting on our neighbors deck that turned its head and watched us as my brother and I left our house and a separate time when a white bird was flying with a flock of other birds, seemingly following us to school, when we got to class the white bird flew to the window and hovered outside it for a minute and then left. We don't have any local legends about any white animals in our county or anything like that. Not sure if this was a guardian angel kind of thing or if it was a fluke of nature or a chemical spill that caused so many white animals to appear

AFB Hauntings
09/1997

As a child, we were a military family and eventually were stationed at Shaw AFB, in Sumter, South Carolina. We lived in the townhouses for enlisted personal and our exact house had a park directly behind the house, along with a small class six store. Pretty quickly after moving into the house, we started having weird experiences. One day my sister, me, and a friend of ours were walking down to the park from our backyard. I had a feeling as though I was being watched from the house, yet we were home alone. I turned around and in my bedroom upstairs stood two girls in my room, looking out the window staring right at us. I got my sister’s attention and she turned to see them as well. The girls were in period dress from probably the 1800s, curls in their hair. We for some reason decided to run back inside the house to see this sight in person and only found an empty room. But my curtains were now all closed when they were open beforehand. Later that year, I was looking outside my window to see who was at the park, as I looked into the empty field near the park, suddenly from thin air a man on a horse appeared. He was in civil war dress style, the bottom of the horse was not visible. They rode across the field for probably just a few seconds before they disappeared again into the air. This occurrence seemed as though it was a time warp or disturbance. The townhome we lived in seemed like it almost had constant activity. There was a cold spot under the attack entrance at all times, so much so that our dog would squeeze herself against the wall to walk around it. There were times that the dog ran out of the house full speed, and within a minute all the window shades would start pulling up and down. Sometimes at night, you could hear a woman crying in my sisters’ room. Once I woke up to what sounded like screams and shrieks in the hallway at night and people trying to get out of the house. No one else in the house seemed to be awakened by this event. I always think if anyone else has run into these spirits over the years.

Historic Home
07/2019

In July of 2019, a truck struck a historic building that was undergoing renovation. The driver claims he fell asleep at the wheel. Five days later, a second truck crashed into the same building in the exact same place. Per local news outlets, the man says he has no idea what happened and that all he remembers is the moment of impact. Neither drugs or alcohol were factors in either case.

Bulldog Bridge
12/2019

This bridge spans a creek running through the middle of some fields in rural Indiana, between Princeton and Wheeling. It's on an agricultural access road, so there isn't much of any traffic through there. The bridge was a steel trussed bridge for many years and was the site of several suicides, where the victims would hang themselves from the trusses. The earliest date of death by suicide at this location is unknown. Some say that the earliest was a man in 1889, but records could not verify there was a bridge at this location during that time. One man was also found in his card and not hanging from the trusses. Due to the isolation of the area, it was a few days before he was discovered. The issue of suicide at this bridge became so pervasive, that the county had the bridge torn down and rebuilt without trusses in 2010 to try and prevent any more tragic deaths of this nature. The bridge is now covered in graffiti, no doubt from young people trying to live up to the dares that are so popular in the age group. Most are names, swear words, drawings of phalluses, but the name Dagon is one incidence that stand out. The bridge got its name from the sounds of growling that has been heard coming from the surrounding fields. Visitors to the bridge have claimed to feel cold spots and the ability to see their breath in the middle of the summer.

ReTails Thrift Store
11/2019

Our family spends a lot of time in this thrift store and it rarely disappoints... Plus the proceeds benefit the local Humane Society and you can adopt cats here! Because this space is clearly designed to honor the Goddess Bast, it is blessed with not only amazing treasures to purchase, but also is a portal to high strangeness. This afternoon once again the sacred aisles of ReTails brought us a visitor from another dimension!

Lizard Man
08/1955

In the summer of 1955, a local man reported that he was grabbed and pulled underwater by a "lizard man" while swimming in the Ohio River near Dogtown. That same summer, there was a sighting of 10 goblin like creatures in the city. This was also the same year the Hopkinsville Goblins incident took place, just a little over an hour away.

High School Goblins
08/1955

On a summer night in August of 1955, ten teenagers claim they spotted 10 small goblin-like creatures on the football field of Lincoln High School. They supposedly lopped off into the darkness after the kids started thowing stones at them. 1955 was the same year as the Hopkinsville Goblin incident, and some locals believe the creature sighting at Lincoln School was connected somehow. This is a historical account taken from local papers.

Beachfront Apparition
07/1987

In the summer of 1987 when I was 27, I left my friend's beach house in Gloucester, MA, early in the morning during a rainstorm for a solitary walk on the beach. When I had walked past all the beach houses on my right to an area of sand dunes and marsh grass, out of this area came a man in yellow rain gear looking and walking toward the waves, perpendicular to my course. As I got closer, I saw he was older with a grey beard, and that his rain gear was vintage Mackintosh. He looked like some guy on a fish sticks package. I was very into vintage clothing in those days, so I thought I would ask him where he'd found it . Closer, I saw a look of concern on his face and that his gaze was fixed on the horizon to my right -- except there WAS no horizon because we were in the midst of a heavy rainstorm. I decided to merely compliment him on the rain gear. When I was three feet from him, I saw all the broken capillaries on his skin, as if he drank, and that his eyes were STILL fixated on that not-there horizon, clearly upset though there was nothing to see, so as I passed just behind him I said merely, "How's it going?" He neither looked at me nor replied. When I had walked a few more steps, I thought, "What is he -- too cool to say hi when we're the only two on this beach?!" I turned to look with resentment, but he was not there. I tried to figure out -- could he have run all the way down to the waves? Was he trying to drown himself, hence the anguish? Baffled, I watched for his Macintosh hat to surface, and when it didn't, with my brain scrambling for an explanation, I thought: "ghost." What nonsense, right? I turned around to find his tracks in the wet sand. Mine were the only set of tracks on that beach.
