True Not-Deer

I want to preface this by clarifying a few things. I am not a hunter, but I have a general knowledge of animal anatomy and typical animal behavior. Despite not hunting, I know very well that Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) accounts for most of what people on the internet think are Not-Deer sightings. I am also a highly logical person, and try to find logical explanations for things whenever possible. My name is common enough that I could include it here, but for reasons of internet safety, I will not be doing that. A bit of context: This happened very early in the morning, around 2 AM or so. I was in a second story room that faced the street. At the end of this street is a cul-de-sack with a streetlamp. It doesn't use bright white bulbs, but the light it provides is easily noticeable even from inside. The room I was in has a window facing the street. It's a big enough window that if there's anything going on outside, you can be anywhere in the room and still see it. I was walking around the room with the lights off while listening to music, using the light from the streetlamp outside to avoid running into the furniture. I walked past the window and stopped, because there was a deer outside in the grass. I walk at a decent clip, so I was a little surprised that I hadn't seen the deer on my previous pass of the window, but I didn't think much of it. I hadn't seen the deer walk to its current location, but that didn't mean anything. I paused my music to watch the deer. It was standing completely still, with its head up as if watching the sky. This was the first thing that struck me as odd. It continued to stand still for several minutes, always with its head up. Absolutely motionless. That behavior is easily explained by CWD, but the next odd aspect has no natural explanation that I can think of. It only looked like a deer when I wasn't looking directly at it. If I attempted to look directly at the supposed 'deer', my vision became unable to focus on it. Only when I moved my eyes away and watched it through my peripheral vision did it look like a deer. After several more minutes of watching it, during which it maintained its strange pose and continued to cause my vision to not focus if I looked directly at it, I quietly walked away and put my back to a corner several feet away from the window. I did not have line of sight to it when I was in this corner. I very quietly whispered the strange aspects of this creature aloud to myself. I checked the window again, and it was gone. I immediately turned on all the lights in the room and sat in a chair that gave me a view of the entire room and the window. The date on this is certain, because I immediately texted my friend about this after sitting in the chair. My friend wondered if I was hallucinating, but there is no doubt in my mind that what I saw was really there. I have hallucinated once in the past, but that was due to sleep deprivation, and I was aware that I was hallucinating. I was absolutely well rested when this sighting occurred. Other strange things have occurred at this location. I have lost time and have seen the ghost of a cat. Unfortunately, I believe the latter is due to the fact that some people leave their pets behind when they move. There were real cats in the house when the ghost sighting occurred, but I know for certain that it was not one of the real cats that I saw. Story for another time, though.
