The Ice Was Still Solid

My neighborhood park

So one day me and my sister were walking past our neighborhood park, and we paused when we noticed a coyote. We were standing in the edge of the road and it was at the very far edge of the park, by the forest that leads up to a private school, so were were at least 80 feet away from it. The back edge of the park had a large dip where water would collect, and being January, the large puddle had frozen over. We watched a the coyote walked towards the woods for a bit, before following it, as one does. When we reached the area the coyote was, it had disappeared. Again, it was January, so all the trees were barren and you could see super deep into the woods, yet we couldn’t spot the coyote. We had also checked the damp ground, and there were no paw prints where there typically would be. The oddest part was the fact that the icy collection of water was still perfectly intact. When we tested the thickness, it was barely 5cm thick, and it cracked easily under our touch. Again, it was completely intact when we had gotten there. The moment was so odd… My sister and I still bring it up when we walk by those woods sometimes.
