West End Elementary
2006 - 2007
We were outside on a fairly cloudless day for after-lunch recess. Me and my friends were playing tag when, out of nowhere, the daylight turned to night. Everyone, including the adults that watched over us, were totally dumbfounded by what was happening. Kids were freaking out and honestly, I thought it was the end of the world. It was so creepy, that they actually ended recess early to bring us inside. I remember one of the girls taking cover under a desk for some reason, but I think she was just so freaked out and confused.
There might be a pretty straightforward explanation to this. In order for the day to go dark, something needs to block the sun. At the time, the first thing I did was look up at the sky to see where the sun went. What I saw was a dark, circular cloud hovering directly above the school. Kind of like in the movie Independence Day, but it didn't look like an alien spaceship. It looked like a very dark cloud. What always stumped me about that was this not being a thunder cloud. There was no rain or lightning at all. Not even a sprinkle. It was like a giant umbrella showed up out of nowhere and blocked the sun for a bit. And it wasn't just typical shade, as it literally felt like dusk came early that day.
To this day, I have yet to come up with a rational explanation.
