Squatchy Encounter at Butler Bar

My family and I went camping at the Butler Bar Campground east of Port Orford. Beautiful, eerie area. The vibe was a bit menacing from the get-go. An hostile old man yelled at us as we passed by his campsite. The campground was well maintained yet he was the only occupant. We ignored him and decided to camp upriver in an open campsite right on Elk River. We set up two tents. My son, at the last second, decided that he wanted to sleep with the family. We all piled into one tent. Later in the night, I heard a large animal (what sounded like a bear.) I heard it pawing around in the other tent (which we had zipped up). It brushed past the tent we were in - I could feel its hulking mass slide past me from the outer wall. A strange glowing light appeared above our tent. It wasn’t light from a car (our tent was surrounded by a thicket of tanoaks) and the night was moonless. The glow appeared around 11 pm and disappeared around 2 am. The other tent was unzipped in the morning. There were no pawprints in the sand, nor were there any prints in the tent. The book The Klamath Knot (Wallace) mentions this area in a chapter that references Sasquatch. It makes me wonder whether this was a Squatchy encounter.
