I was on my honeymoon and we booked a beach house on a cliff - we're talking like 100 rickety wooden steps to get up to it, but worth it for the amazing views. As the stairs were a bit of a peril there were security lights at the bottom, middle and top, so you didn't die climbing up them in the dark. We were just about to go to bed, when the bottom security light came on. Not a big deal, plenty of dogs and creatures that could set it off. then the middle light came on. Now we had a clear view up these stairs and if there was something there we would have easily seen, also the steps were quite creaky and we didn't hear anything. I suggested maybe a very large moth. Then the top security light came on... and the gate next to it creeked open. this left a path along the front of the house, ten more steps, and a hip high gate until where we were. My huspand went and bolted the hip high gate, and said 'you're not welcome here'. And then we heard the gate creek shut, and the lights come back on, as if someone were walking down the stairs again. Freaked us right out and we slept with knives in the bedroom just in case (not that they would help against ghosts!) But we legitimatly have no logical explanation of what happened.
