Ouachita National Forest
Summer, 2023

My Grammy and Granddad have a spot right next to Lake Ouachita, given to my Grammy via inheritance. It's some army training base that she gets to take us all to when its not being used. It's a very nice spot, and my Grammy and her family had been going there since she was a kid. We always go every summer with an understanding that shit can and will happen. I could tell quite a few eerie stories from there, but for now I will tell this one. In the summer of 2023, we went about three times to the lake. One particular trip, we were staying a week. The second or third night, we are sitting around the campfire, winding down after a day of my Grandad slinging us off a Big Mabel from his boat. We're sitting, telling stories, when we see something in the sky. We see shooting stars there plenty, but this was not a shooting star. It moved slower than a star, and the tail of it stayed in the sky well after it was gone. We started trying to get service, seeing if there was any news about some space project or something odd like that. And not two minutes after it falls beyond the horizon, we hear something hit the earth, probably only a few miles away. We heard it echo through the valley. And there was no news of any meteors, space debris, space projects, nothing. Not even after we had gotten back.
