One day, towards the beginning of the school year in 2019, I was walking down the hallway and heading to class, 3 girls walking next to me. I knew these girls very well and had a brief conversation with them as they headed to their before school club in the gymnasium. After saying quick goodbyes to each other, they turned in the opposite direction as me to head to the gym’s double-doors. I walked along the halls, which felt quite silent and empty, which was strange considering the staff and teachers would normally stand by the front entrance to greet the students entering the school. I kept walking. And kept walking.
And kept walking.
I suddenly heard a loud slam directly behind me. I turned around quickly, startled. The gymnasium’s doors were shut, unlike before. Through the small windows of the double-doors I saw lights inside the room flickering extremely fast. Next came the blood-curdling screams of the three girls inside. I stood and watched, eyes wide with fear. Through the windows of the doors I saw the room go dark.
For one terrifying second, nothing happened.
Then the doors burst open, the girls scrambling out of the room, almost trampling each other. They raced past me in a cluster, sprinting down the hallway at lightning speed. The lights inside the gym came back to life, one by one.
I had no idea what I had just experienced, but I didn’t want to stick around to find out. I dashed to class, eager to get away from the gymnasium.
Later in the day when I asked the group what they saw, they were petrified and claimed to not have remembered what happened.
They didn’t leave each other’s sides for the rest of the week.
